China accuses US of weaponizing tariffs, comments on British Steel

China has accused the U.S. of using tariffs as a weapon and placing its own interests above those of the international community, amid the latest tariff moves by the Trump administration which placed 145% tariffs on the world’s second-largest economy. Speaking to reporters at a daily news briefing, Foreign Ministry spokesperson Lin Jian said that the tariffs by the U.S. show “typical unilateralism, protectionism and economic bullying.” When asked if there would be reciprocal moves by China after U.S. President Donald Trump said electronics such as computer chips, smart phones and laptops would not be subject to the same high import duties as some other products, Lin said that “there are no winners in tariff wars and trade wars, and protectionism has no way out.” Moneycontrol is India’s leading financial portal, offering market news, expert analysis, and powerful tools.
