German police remove pro-Palestinian protesters from Berlin’s Humboldt University | N18G

German police removed around 100 pro-Palestinian protesters from an auditorium at Humboldt University in Berlin on Wednesday, April 16, after the group barricaded themselves inside the campus building for several hours. The Berlin police operation began around 2 p.m. local time and involved nearly 300 officers, according to spokesperson Martin Halweg. Once authorities received approval from university officials, police entered the building and began escorting the protesters outside, where their personal details were recorded. The Gaza-linked protest reflects growing global tensions over the ongoing Israel-Hamas conflict. Similar student-led demonstrations swept U.S. college campuses in 2023, leading to multiple police-led evacuations and, in some cases, clashes between protesters and counter-protesters. Humboldt University has previously witnessed such demonstrations, with pro-Palestinian activism also occurring at the site in May 2023. The latest protest adds to a rising wave of international solidarity actions for Gaza, as students and activists call for an end to what they describe as Israeli aggression. Police confirmed the operation was still ongoing nearly five hours after it began. The incident highlights continued unrest in academic institutions across Europe in response to the war in Gaza and ongoing Middle East tensions. #berlinprotests #humboldtuniversity #propalestine #germanpolice #studentprotests #freepalestine #berlinnews #palestinesolidarity #protestnews #germanynews
