The prime minister has welcomed the Supreme Court’s ruling on the legal definition of a woman, saying he is “really pleased” that a judgement has been made. Commenting publicly for the first time since the court’s decision was announced, Sir Keir Starmer said it provided “much-needed clarity” that “a woman is an adult female”. All five judges at the UK’s highest court unanimously ruled that the legal definition of a woman under the Equality Act 2010 should be based on biological sex.
