After seven years of displacement, Syrian family returns home

Packing his belongings and loading them into a truck, displaced Syrian Ibrahim al-Ezzo described his feeling as “indescribable” as he and his family left a camp for the displaced in the Aleppo countryside and headed home to their village in the Idlib countryside. Ezzo and his family fled their village of Maasaran seven years ago seeking safety. The 41-year-old father of six used blocks to raise walls around the family’s tent in order to protect his children from harsh winter conditions. There, he allocated a small corner to selling goods to people in the camp. Following the toppling of President Bashar al-Assad in December last year, Ezzo and his family – like many other displaced Syrians – have now returned to their village where he plans to rebuild his damaged house to become “better than before,” he said. Ezzo is also planning to reopen a convenience store in Maasaran, like he used to before fleeing.
